In the framework of the 3rd Global LNG Worldwide Forum, held in Cartagena, Colombia, Seaspan has signed a memorandum of knowledge (MoU) with global power organization, AES.
This collaboration is predominantly aimed at giving LNG bunkering products and services to delivery vessels crossing the Panama Canal, as well as discovering selections to present this and identical companies in regional markets in the region of influence of the Costa Norte LNG terminal, owned by AES, found in Colón, Panama.
At the moment, AES is producing a task to increase the aforementioned terminal that contemplates a new LNG refuelling infrastructure in methane tankers (Ship Loading Facility) that collectively with the arrival of a smaller scale methane tanker to Panama, offered by Seaspan ULC, destined for last deliveries of LNG, will enable the commercialisation of LNG as marine fuel from 2H24, and finally the shipping and delivery of this kind of hydrocarbon, more environmentally pleasant, in other different regional markets.
The Ship Loading Facility is scheduled to start out functions in November of this year as an integral element of the solutions of the Costa Norte LNG terminal in the province of Colon, Panama. This infrastructure claims to alter the landscape of the regional power sector, enabling the terminal to offer services for the LNG business:
- Cool down: cooling service for LNG carriers reloading or resuming marine procedure immediately after a period of time of servicing downtime.
- Short term storage and reloading: with the potential of the Costa Norte storage tank (180 000 m3), different market operators will be equipped to retailer their LNG briefly and withdraw it on need.
- Refuelling for bunkering and regional distribution: with a product that replicates the procedure of the world’s major terminals, the Costa Norte terminal will empower the shipping and delivery of stored LNG to be used each for LNG provide, as marine gas for the escalating fleet transiting the Panama Canal, and for rising marketplaces in neighbouring countries.
“Seaspan is proud to collaborate with AES to provide LNG bunkering in the Panama area and lead the way in furnishing energy transformation possibilities in the world maritime sector. Together we will provide small-carbon remedies for ship proprietors who want to decarbonise their operations and changeover to cleaner maritime fuels,” explained Ian McIver, president of Seaspan Energy.
“We are on the doorstep of a new period in sustainable power. The collaboration with our shipowner spouse and the improvements at our Costa Norte Terminal placement us as leaders in driving sustainable, effective and reasonably priced solutions to meet up with the developing requires of the marketplace,” additional Miguel Bolinaga, president of AES in Panama.
These achievements mark the commencing of a revolutionary transformation in the sustainable electricity landscape that gains both of those Panama and the location.
